Before Google does it for you.
Type a title and meta description and watch the Google result build itself: desktop or mobile, measured in pixels the way Google cuts them, with your keyword in bold.
Widths are measured in pixels with Arial, the font Google uses in results (20px titles and 14px descriptions on desktop). Google does not publish exact limits, so treat these as close estimates. It can also rewrite either line; this shows what searchers see when it does not.
Six things the preview
checks for you
A search result has about a second to earn the click. The preview shows you the exact line Google cuts, so you fix it before it is live, not after the traffic has gone.
Pixel width, not characters
Google trims by display width. A title full of capital W and M letters gets cut long before one full of i and l letters. This measures the real width.
Desktop and mobile
Switch views to check both. Mobile shows a narrower description, so the first 120 characters have to carry the message on their own.
Live truncation
See the exact word where Google would add the ellipsis, so the promise at the end of your title is not the part that disappears.
Bolded keyword
Google bolds words that match the search. Add your keyword and see whether it lands early enough to catch the eye.
Breadcrumb URL
Your URL renders as the site name and breadcrumb path Google shows, which is a quick check that your slug reads cleanly.
Copy as code
When it looks right, copy the finished title and meta description as HTML tags, ready for your theme or SEO plugin.
How to use the SERP snippet preview
- Paste your title tag. The bar turns red past the width Google shows on desktop.
- Add your meta description and watch where the text is cut.
- Enter the page URL to see the site name and breadcrumb line.
- Optionally add the keyword you are targeting; matching words turn bold the way they do in Google.
- Switch to Mobile, check again, then copy the finished tags.
What Google actually shows in a search result
A standard organic result has three visible parts: the site name and URL line, the blue title link, and a short description. Each has its own rules, and none of them is a fixed character count.
Titles are measured in pixels
The title area on a desktop results page is about 600 pixels wide. Google does not publish an official limit, but titles wider than that are cut with an ellipsis. In practice that lands somewhere around 50 to 60 characters, which is why character counters disagree with what you see in Google. A pixel check is the reliable version.
The description is a suggestion
Google uses your meta description when it matches the search well, and writes its own snippet from the page when it does not. You cannot force it, but a description that plainly answers the query is the one most likely to be used. Around 120 to 155 characters usually displays in full on desktop.
The URL line is a breadcrumb
Instead of the raw URL, Google shows your site name followed by the path, split into segments. A short, readable slug looks trustworthy here; a string of IDs and dates does not.
How to write a snippet that earns the click
Lead with the keyword. Put the phrase people search near the start of the title so it survives any truncation and gets bolded.
Make one clear promise. Say what the page gives the reader, such as a free tool, a price or a tested list, rather than stacking synonyms.
Match the intent. If the top results are tools, a title that reads like an essay will struggle, and the reverse is also true.
Write the description for a person. One sentence on what they get and one on why yours is different is enough. Stuffing keywords makes Google more likely to replace it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the pixel limit for a Google title?
Google does not publish one. The title area on desktop is about 600 pixels wide, so most preview tools, including this one, use 600px as the limit. That is roughly 50 to 60 characters, depending on how wide the letters are.
Why does Google show a different title or description than mine?
Google rewrites titles and descriptions when it decides other text on the page matches the search better. Titles that are too long, stuffed with keywords or do not describe the page are rewritten most often, and descriptions are frequently tailored to the specific query.
How long should a meta description be?
There is no fixed limit because Google cuts by width. Around 120 to 155 characters usually shows in full on desktop. Keep the key point in the first 120 characters so it also survives on mobile.
Does this tool store what I type?
No. The preview runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to a server.
